Energy Ministry backs Sechin proposals on diversification

ASTRAKHAN. June 5 (Interfax) - The Russian Energy Ministry backs proposals by Rosneft chief Igor Sechin to diversify the economy, Energy Ministry Alexander Novak said at a meeting of the presidential fuel and energy commission.

"The ministry supports the proposals that were now voiced on diversification of the fuel and energy sector. They are aimed at increasing the sustainability of fuel and energy industries," Novak said before starting his report.

Sechin spoke about the need to diversify the economy in his report at the commission meeting.

Novak noted that export markets are now being diversified.

"The energy policy being conducted partially meets these challenges. In particular the destinations of energy resource exports are being diversified with an emphasis on countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Volumes are being increased, major contracts are being signed, infrastructure is being built in virtually all fields of energy, including the gas, oil, coal and electricity sectors," Novak said.
