Impossible to reach agreements with militia in eastern Ukraine - presidential administration

KYIV. June 5 (Interfax) - Ukraine's acting presidential chief-of-staff, Serhiy Pashynsky, believes there is no scenario for promptly completing the "anti-terrorist operation" in eastern Ukraine.

"We should not look at the anti-terrorist operation through the prism of military action alone. The anti-terrorist operation should be viewed through the prism of state propaganda, social initiatives and constitutional changes," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

However, such an approach "will take time", he added.

At the same time, Pashynsky reaffirmed the importance of the ongoing military operation in eastern Ukraine because "huge gangs led by people with whom it is impossible to reach any agreements and who can only be eliminated have already been formed in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions."

The new Ukrainian authorities have already managed to restore the capabilities of the country's security forces, he said, referring to the establishment of the National Guard and a full reshuffle of Ukraine's Security Service.
