Russian grain exported to new markets

GELENDZHIK. June 5 (Interfax) - Russian grain was exported to new markets in the agricultural year ending June 2014. Exports to these countries made up 17% of total exports, Dmitry Rylko, the general director of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, said at the XV international grain round in Gelendzhik Thursday.

"These are countries that are not traditional geographical points for Russian exports, their share made up 17% of supplies," he said.

Rylko said this season saw a large share of Russian wheat go to Mexico. In addition, Peru, Indonesia, the Philippines and other countries started buying Russian grain.

LLC ProZerno said Peru purchased 325,000 tonnes of Russian wheat, Mozambique - 295,000 tonnes and Tanzania - 290,000 tonnes.

This trend will continue in the new agricultural year because Russian wheat can compete with U.S. wheat, he said.

A large volume of Russian wheat also went to Nigeria for the first time this year, Rylko said. This was wheat with 14.5% protein content, he said.

Nigeria bought 338,000 tonnes of Russian wheat, ProZerno reported.

Exports of wheat with such protein content are a feature of this agricultural year, with exports estimated at 800,000 tonnes, Rylko said.

Rylko forecasts that grain exports in the new agricultural year will reach 28 million tonnes.
