Intl sanctions may lead to technological breakthrough in Russia - Deputy PM Rogozin
NOVOSIBIRSK. June 6 (Interfax) - Sanctions imposed on Russia cannot result in its isolation, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said at the Technoprom-2014 forum in Novosibirsk on Friday.
"The U.S. is now openly speaking about a new round of deterrence policy in relation to Russia. But what are they going to deter? We are not spreading geographically in any direction. They want to deter our technological development," he said.
Rogozin said he was convinced that the sanctions policy would have the opposite effect.
"No one will ever be able to secure our country's real isolation. It contradicts the very national character of the Russian people: when we are prohibited something, we want it even more," he said.
One should be wary of active offers of technological cooperation, Rogozin said.
"In this case we would grow lazy. Now I can say for certain that we are expecting a technological breakthrough," he added.
