OSCE official vows to help ease tensions on Armenian-Azeri line of contact
YEREVAN. June 6 (Interfax) - Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan has called on the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to take measures to defuse tensions along the line of contact between the Armenian and Azeri Armed Forces.
"At a meeting with OSCE Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk in Yerevan on Friday, the defense minister called on the diplomat to take steps within his mandate to de-escalate tensions along the [Armenian-Azeri] line of contact because the ongoing tensions could entail heavy consequences for Azerbaijan," an Armenian Defense Ministry spokesman told Interfax.
Kasprzyk, for his part, expressed his concerns and promised to take appropriate measures.
A sniper positioned on the Azeri side of the line of contact killed two servicemen of Armenia's Armed Forces on Thursday. The incident occurred near a checkpoint in southwestern Armenian near the border with Nakhichevan.
