Militant killed in Dagestan's Kizlyar district
MAKHACHKALA. June 6 (Interfax) - A man accused of being involved with militant groups was killed in a shootout with police officers in the village of Bondarevka in the Kizlyar district of Dagestan in Russia's North Caucasus on Friday, a source in the republic's law enforcement agencies told Interfax.
The suspect opened fire on policemen who were visiting houses in Bondarevka as part of a counter-terrorism operation, he said.
"The attacker was killed by return fire. He is being identified. His motives are being established as well," the source said.
Interfax has so far been unable to obtain official confirmation of the report.
The counter-terrorism operation, which was launched in one part of the Kizlyar district on June 4, was spread to the entire territory of the district on Friday, an operation spokesman announced earlier.
