Russia needs program to bolster machine tools manufacturing - Rogozin

NOVOSIBIRSK. June 6 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin has reiterated the need to adopt a program aimed at further promoting the production of machine tools and equipment in the country.

"I insist on launching a large-scale serious program to replace imports of industrial equipment," he said at the Technoprom-2014 forum in Novosibirsk on Friday.

The Russian state corporation Rostec, OJSC Roscosmos, the United Space Rocket Corporation and other enterprises should have unified centers for acquisitions and certification of machine tools, he said.

"Lists of partners who supply machine tools should be provided, and it is necessary to select strategic partners and reach an agreement with them concerning the location of production in the process of acquisitions of machine tools. Roughly speaking, we buy 20 machine tools and build the 21st one on our own," Rogozin said.

It was reported during the forum that domestically produced machine tools and other industrial equipment account for a mere 11% of the overall amount of equipment used by Russian enterprises today, which is much less than in other recognized global industrial states.
