Ukraine imports 33% more gas in Jan-May
KYIV. June 6 (Interfax) - Ukraine imported about 12.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in January-May 2014, 33% more than in the same period last year, according to data from Ukrtransgaz.
In May alone, Ukraine imported 3.7 bcm of gas, compared with 0.8 bcm in May 2013.
Ukraine had about 12.6 billion cubic meters of gas in underground storage as of May 31, 2014.
Natural gas transit through Ukraine totaled about 30.5 bcm in the five months, according to the figures, which correspond to the transit volumes announced by Russian Gazprom . Transit in May totaled 6 bcm.
Ukraine imported 27.972 bcm of gas in 2013 (15% less than in 2012) worth $11.538 billion, according to Gosstat. It imported 25.840 bcm worth $10.685 billion from Russia, 0.891 bcm worth $0.347 billion from Germany, 0.614 bcm worth $0.250 billion from Hungary, 0.534 bcm worth $0.218 billion from Austria and 0.093 bcm worth $0.038 billion from Poland.
Gazprom delivered 12.9 bcm to Naftogaz Ukrainy and 12.9 bcm to Dmytro Firtash-controlled Ostchem. The imports from Europe totaled 2.1 bcm.
