Increase in alcohol excise tax could slow in 2016-2017 - MinFin

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - The increase in the excise tax for alcohol products could slow not only in 2015, but also in 2016-2017, Ilya Trunin, the head of the Russian Finance Ministry's tax and customs policy department, told journalists.

"It's possible that in the coming years we will also have to slow down indexation or index not at 10%, but at a lower amount," he said.

Trunin said the government had already decided to leave the 2015 excise tax the same at in 2014. The government will also transfer the rates included in the 2015 tax code to 2016, and those in the 2016 code to 2017.

The decision for the tax rates in 2016-2017 is not final, however, Trunin added. "We must make provisions for an indexation in rates for all three years, otherwise it will be impossible to plan the budget. But we understand that we will have to return to excise indexation for alcohol next year because the situation that is unfolding is not very good," he said.

It was decided to return to the issue in 2015, Trunin added.
