Politkovskaya murder masterminds could be in Russia - Novaya Gazeta
MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - Novaya Gazeta has several theories as to who could have ordered the murder of reporter Anna Politkovskaya, Novaya Gazeta Managing Editor Sergei Sokolov, told Interfax on Monday.
"We have several theories and we shared them with the Investigative Committee. Our and the Investigative Committee's theories have things in common , but they also differ. We maintain intensive contacts and continue discussions on this issue," Sokolov said.
"Novaya Gazeta suspects several people of ordering the murder, who may be in Russia now," he said.
"We maintain intensive cooperation with the Investigative Committee and we have achieved mutual understanding. We inform the Investigative Committee about what is known to us, as we are seriously concerned about this case," Sokolov said.
The Moscow City Court sentenced five men to prison terms of up to 12 years for murdering Politkovskaya. The mastermind of the murder has not been tracked down.
