Glimmer light at end of tunnel in Ukrainian crisis - German foreign minister
ST. PETERSBURG. June 10 (Interfax) - German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has stated that he sees "a light at the end of a tunnel" in the process of settling the Ukrainian crisis.
"Considering the presidential elections in Ukraine, and considering the talks held last week in France, I want to say that we are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel," he said after an informal meeting between the foreign ministers of Russia, Germany and Poland in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.
"I cannot say that we have already found a political solution to this crisis, but nevertheless the escalation we have been observing every day over the past few months has still yielded to a new atmosphere," the minister went on.
He said he hoped that "the influence Russia has will be exerted by it on the separatist groups" in Ukraine.
"We are not facing a political solution, but there are possibilities for de-escalating the situation. We must now make the de-escalation process irreversible," the German minister said.
