Donetsk militiamen claim two fellow fighters killed in Dobropolye clashes

DONETSK/KYIV. June 13 (Interfax) - Clashes in the city of Dobropolye, Donetsk region, have claimed the lives of two militia fighters.

"Today the Ukrainian army has attacked our positions in the city of Dobropolye. Large-scale hostilities ensued, involving the use of heavy weaponry. Two militia fighters were killed. Furthermore, the Ukrainian army carried out a strike from heavy weaponry against a vegetable warehouse containing food reserves for the locals," a source in the local militia headquarters told Interfax on Friday.

Several civilians have been injured, the militia also said. Losses on the side of the National Guard and the Ukrainian Army are so far unknown.

For its part, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said that militia fighters had launched an attack at the city of Dobropolye on Friday morning. "After several barrages of fire from the BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher, the criminals opened fire from the (armored personnel carrier) BTR-80 armament," the ministry said.

The shells struck the territory of a vegetable warehouse of one of local businesses in Dobropolye, killing one civilian and injuring two others, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said in a press statement on Friday afternoon.

After that the militia fighters planted bombs under the dumped BM-21 and the surrounding area and left, the ministry said.
