Slovyansk thermal power station to stop unit N7 after fighting disrupts coal supplies

DONETSK. June 19 (Interfax) - The Slovyansk thermal power station owned by Donbassenergo is experiencing a critical situation around solid and liquid fuel supplies because of the hostilities in the Slovyansk area.

This situation is the result of the lack of any possibility to deliver fuel by Donetsk Railway, the Donetsk regional administration said on Thursday, citing the regional department for the development of basic industrial sectors.

By Thursday, the Slovyansk thermal power station has had 51,700 tonnes in coal reserves, the department said. Operating its power unit N7 at building N7A at 320 megawatts requires 3,200 tonnes of solid fuel daily.

"Due to the absence of fuel deliveries, the Donbassenergo management has decided to suspend the operation of the power unit N7 at the building N7A and switch to power generation by the TG-3 one-boiler turbine generator with a 35-megawatt capacity from June 21," the statement said.

The regional administration stressed that power generation at the N7 power unit can only be restored if coal supplies are resumed.
