Explosion near exchange office in Donetsk - authorities

KYIV. June 19 (Interfax) - An object believed to be an improvised explosive device has gone off in an urn near an exchange office in the Donetsk Kirovsky district, the official website of the Donetsk mayor has reported.

No one was hurt in the explosion, the report says.

The report, which cites the Donetsk city department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's Main Department in the Donetsk region, says that a resident of Donetsk had contacted the police to say that he had found an object that looked like an explosive device fixed under his car with duct tape.

"A group of investigators and operatives and mine disposal experts immediately came to the site. The law enforcement officials encircled the accident site and closed Lyashenko Street to traffic. They found that the object fixed to the car was not an explosive device," the report says.

At the same time, an explosion occurred near the exchange office as the investigators were working there. It later turned out that the explosion was caused by a homemade bomb that was placed in an urn. No one was hurt in the explosion.

A group of investigators from the city police department are now working on this case. A criminal case may be opened.

The situation in the city was generally calm as of 5:30 p.m. local time," the report says.
