MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax-AVN) - An air defense battalion deployed near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky will be reinforced with the newest missile systems S-400 Triumf, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"Air defense forces in Kamchatka will be joined by brand new S-400," Pacific Fleet spokesman Capt. 1st Rank Roman Martov told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

Kamchatkan air defense servicemen have returned from the Gatchina air defense training center. "They studied new systems, S-400, which will soon be supplied to the air defense unit of the forces stationed in northeastern Russia," Martov said.

S-400 Triumf, a product of Almaz-Antei Concern, is a next-generation long- and medium-range system built to destroy all contemporary and prospective types of air attack means: reconnaissance, strategic and tactical aircraft, tactical and operative tactical ballistic missiles, medium-range ballistic missiles, hypersonic targets, jammers, radar planes and others.

The system is capable of simultaneous firing 72 missiles on 36 targets on a distance of 400 kilometers.
