Diplomats working in Ukraine briefed on president's peace plan

KYIV. June 20 (Interfax) - Ukraine's deputy chief of the presidential administration Valeriy Chaly, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and Security Service (SBU) chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko on Friday met with the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Ukraine.

"The deputy chief of the administration and the foreign minister informed the representatives of the diplomatic corps about details of the presidential peace plan to settle the situation in the country's east," the president's press office said.

According to its information, Chaly said that President Petro Poroshenko is holding intense talks with many country leaders and international organizations to secure backing for implementation of the peace plan.

He also emphasized the importance of "a united and concerted position" for attaining joint goals prior to the June 27 signing of the economic part of the EU-Ukraine association agreement. "This is not just one of the priorities, this is one of the key events that will shape Ukraine's development for many years ahead," Chaly said.

For his part, the foreign minister said that the plan must be implemented without delay and has a clear timeframe. He said it is important for its implementation to be monitored by the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe), and praised the work of its Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.

"SBU chief Nalyvaichenko informed about measures aimed at countering destabilization in the east of the country," the statement said.
