Self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic leadership refuses to talk directly with Kyiv
MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax) - It makes no sense to hold talks with the Ukrainian authorities, but the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) is prepared for such talks in the presence of mediators, DPR Supreme Council Chairman Denis Pushilin said.
"I have to state the fact that Comrade Poroshenko [Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko] doesn't control the situation. It would be a criminal deed to talk about anything with the people aiding and abetting unlawful actions. And it's inappropriate, because it makes sense to talk with people who make decisions. He talks about humanitarian corridors, while people are being shot. I consider this wrong, and if such talks take place, then only in the presence of mediators," Pushilin said at a press conference on Friday.
"These mediators are the Russian Federation and international organizations. These can be representatives of the UN and the OSCE or any other [organizations]. We fully support it if they act as mediators and guarantors," Pushilin said.
