Over 220 Ukrainian refugees transported from Rostov, Crimea to central Russia

MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - Russian Emergency Situations Ministry planes have transported over 220 refugees who fled southeastern Ukraine from the Rostov region and Crimea to central Russia, ministry spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky told Interfax on Sunday.

"A plane carrying 121 persons, among them 35 children, has departed from Rostov-on-Don to the Lipetsk region," Drobyshevsky said.

He said shelters had been deployed in the Lipetsk region to accommodate the refugees.

Another plane departed from Simferopol. "It will bring to Voronezh 103 persons, including 51 children, four of them infants," the ministry spokesman said.

The transportation was arranged on the minister's orders to move Ukrainian refugees from the Rostov region and Crimea, where most people who had fled war-ridden southeastern Ukraine amassed, to the Central Federal District, he said.

Ministry helicopters are assisting in the transportation of refugees from the Rostov region. "Four helicopters performed twelve flights today. They transported 191 displaced persons, including more than 50 children, and an injured Ukrainian woman," Drobyshevsky said.
