Burjanadze thinks Georgia won't get NATO membership action plan at NATO summit in Wales
TBILISI. June 23 (Interfax) - Nino Burjanadze, leader of the election bloc Burjanadze - United Opposition and former speaker of the Georgian parliament, said she believes Georgia will not enter NATO in the foreseeable future.
"Georgia has no chance of entering NATO when Russian military bases are located twenty minutes from Tbilisi. We shouldn't deceive people by saying we will get a NATO membership action plan or even something more at the upcoming summit in Wales," Burjanadze told reporters on Monday.
Burjanadze said the current Georgian administration is ignoring the statements made by U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel that Georgia has no chances of becoming a NATO member.
"I am saying once again that everyone who speaks about Georgia's prompt accession to NATO are not saying that loudly, but practically subscribe to its accession to NATO without Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region. It's a choice which I, as a citizen and a politician, will not subscribe to. I choose the integrity of Georgia," Burjanadze said.
