India wants to discuss extension of Russia-China gas pipeline to its own border

MOSCOW. June 24 (Interfax) - India intends to begin negotiations on the extension of the gas pipeline, which Russia is beginning to build to China, to the Indian border, said the Indian newspaper, Financial Express.

"Given [the] Narendra Modi government's intent to bolster sourcing of oil and gas to meet the country's rising energy demand, an Indian delegation would take up discussions on the proposed pipeline's extension with Moscow and Beijing during the BRIC summit in July," a source told the newspaper.

"The proposal would also be in focus when Russian President Vladimir Putin visits India later this year," the newspaper said.

During the Moscow visit of Indian Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for the World Petroleum Congress, he is said to have discussed the idea of the gas pipeline extension with his Russian colleague, Alexander Novak.
