FGC, Fingrid to sign final documents on electricity imports from Finland on July 4
VOLGOGRAD. June 24 (Interfax) - Federal Grid Co (FGC) and Finnish Fingrid will sign the final documents on reverse deliveries of electricity from Finland to Russia on July 4, FGC General Director Andrei Murov told journalists.
"We will sign that agreement on July 4, the amendment to the agreement with Fingrid," Murov told journalists when asked when reverse electricity deliveries to its grid would begin.
Finland might supply 300 megawatts to Russia over lines with capacity for 1,300 MW. Murov said the deliveries would only take place if they are economically beneficial.
It was reported earlier that Inter RAO UES has acquired the technical ability to import electricity from Finland, a spokesman for the company told Interfax.
"Power transmission tests at 330/400 kilovolts from Russia to Finland and back in automatic mode for a period of 12 hours went well, according to preliminary data," the spokesman said.
The cost of electricity in Finland depends on the water level in the country's rivers, which affects hydropower plants.
Finland is a buyer of Russian electricity. Inter RAO boosted electricity export to Finland 8% in 2013 to 4.1 billion kWh. Russia has not previously imported electricity from Finland on a commercial basis.
