Duma expects tensions to abate after resolution on the use of Russian military force in Ukraine is repealed
MOSCOW. June 24 (Interfax) - The Russian president's initiative to withdraw the resolution allowing use of Russian military force in Ukraine from the Federation Council is evidence of Russia's commitment to settling the Ukrainian crisis peacefully, said Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the State Duma's Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Contacts with Compatriots.
"In a situation where the probability of the use of Russian military force has been qualitatively minimized, the president found it possible to ask the upper house of parliament to revoke this decision," Slutsky told reporters on Tuesday.
"In the current system of coordinates, the Federation Council's resolution allowing use of Russian military force in Ukraine is a strong irritant for the world community," he said.
The Federation Council is expected to meet the president's request as early as June 25.
