Bomb defused in Makhachkala
MAKHACHKALA. June 25 (Interfax) - A homemade bomb was detected at the gate of the Makhachkala home of a 50-year-old livestock fodder manufacturer early on Wednesday morning, the Dagestani operative staff of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee told Interfax.
"The area was cordoned off and the nearby houses were evacuated. A Federal Security Service bomb squad destroyed the bomb with the help of a hydrodynamic device in the morning," a staff spokesman said.
The bomb was made of a metal container filled with ammonium nitrate and powdered aluminum with a cell phone detonator. It was equivalent to 1.5 kilograms of TNT.
"According to operative information, the businessman had been threatened by militants who demanded money for their operations. The businessman refused to pay, which might be the cause of the attempted bombing," the operative staff spokesman said.
