Self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic says Red Cross has recognized it party to intl military conflict

DONETSK. June 25 (Interfax) - The International Committee of the Red Cross has recognized the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) as a party to an international military conflict, DPR Prime Minister Alexander Borodai said.

"The Red Cross has recognized us as a party to an international military conflict, and this means that our prisoners of war will not be considered terrorists and gangsters but will be granted official prisoner of war status," Borodai said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The DPR has already set up a special commission in charge of organizing assistance to the families of militiamen who have been killed or wounded. "The first family received 250,000 hryvni today. We have accumulated enough money to make the promised payments," DPR First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Purgin said.
