Opposition leader Khadzhimba plans to run for president of Abkhazia

SUKHUMI. June 26 (Interfax) - An Abkhaz opposition leader, Raul Khadzhimba, who previously held the post of vice president the republic, has announced his plans to run for president.

"Indeed, I will take part in Abkhazia's presidential elections," Khadzhimba told Interfax on Wednesday.

"The leader of one of the veteran organizations Vitaly Gabnia will run for the post of vice president of the republic," he said.

"My key task is to rally the Abkhaz people around our country's goals," he said.

When commenting on relations with Russia, Khadzhimba said that "there is no alternative to our relations with Russia, and no one can dispute the role Russia has been playing in the fate of the people of Abkhazia."
