Donetsk militia ready to exchange dozen Ukrainian officers
MOSCOW. June 26 (Interfax) - Militiamen operating in the Donetsk region are ready to exchange prisoners with the Ukrainian law enforcement authorities.
"An exchange of prisoners with the opposite side is being arranged. We are ready to exchange a dozen Ukrainian officers and Roman Svytan, a security advisor to the Donetsk region governor appointed by Kyiv, for our militiamen and captured civilians," first deputy prime minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic Andrei Purgin told Interfax.
He said the republic administration had not chosen people who would be exchanged for the prisoners. "This is a subject for negotiations. We may exchange some of them for several persons," Purgin said.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Koval said earlier ten people had been exchanged in the ceasefire period.
Purgin said the number was overstated.
The ceasefire in southeastern Ukraine was declared on June 20. It would last until Friday.
