Tatneft prepared to resume work in Syria at first opportunity - CEO
ALMETYEVSK. June 27 (Interfax) - Tatneft , which resumed operations in Libya after a three-year break, is also thinking about returning to projects in Syria.
"Operations outside of the Russian Federation - in Libya, Turkmenistan and other regions - will be continued in 2014. We're closely following the situation in Syria in order to return to the implementation of the project at the first opportunity," the Russian oil company's CEO, Nail Maganov said at a shareholder meeting on Friday.
He recalled that Tatneft suspended operations in Libya and Syria due to the unstable political situations in these countries.
Tatneft's chief geologist, Rais Khisamov told Interfax earlier that the company resumed work in Libya in May. It is conducting exploration with Libya's National Oil Corp. (NOC) at oil blocks in the areas of Ghadames and Sirte with a combined area of 18,180 square km. Tatneft won concessions to develop these blocks in international tenders in 2005 and 2006.
In Syria, Tatneft was developing the South Kishma field under a production sharing agreement in which it owns 50%. The field was discovered as a result of exploration of Block XXVII in southeastern Syria.
