Naryshkin, Brasseur may meet in September - Pushkov

BAKU. June 27 (Interfax) - Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin and Ann Brasseur, president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), may meet in the fall, possibly in September, Alexei Pushkov, the head of the Russian State Duma committee on international affairs, said.

"Both sides recognize its expedience and I think it is realistic to speak about the possibility of such a meeting sometime in the fall, probably in September," Pushkov told reporters upon arrival in Baku, citing the phone conversation he had with Brasseur on Saturday, in which the matter was addressed.

Pushkov said he has confirmed Naryshkin's readiness to meet with Brasseur, adding that Naryshkin has suggested organizing such a meeting at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE that opens in Baku on Saturday. "She said that, unfortunately, it doesn't fit in her schedule and obligations," Pushkov said.

"In any case, such a meeting is expedient and Ann Brasseur insisted that it take place," Pushkov said.

The exact time and venue of the meeting has not been determined yet. There were discussions on holding it in Strasbourg, but the issue has been postponed until September, the parliamentarian said.
