Maneuvers start in east Russia in preparation for strategic exercise
MOSCOW. June 27 (Interfax-AVN) - More than 1,500 troops and over 100 pieces of heavy weapons are involved in a three-day army exercise that started in Buryatia, eastern Siberia, on Friday.
The main part of the maneuvers would be held at the Burduny training site. A mechanized infantry brigade with tank and missile reinforcements would move into a designated area and train in deployment and fighting under a simulated massive enemy and terrorist attacks, Eastern Military District spokesman Col. Alexander Gordeyev told Interfax-AVN
The main attention would be paid to interaction between commanders at all levels and their decision making within tight time limits and in an environment highly similar to battlefield conditions.
Putting forces on high combat alert, secret long-distance railroad transportation of troops and armaments, and fighting saboteur groups are among the tasks of the first part of the maneuvers, which are part of preparations for the planned Vostok-2014 (East 2014) strategic exercise in September and are coordinated by Maj. Gen. Mikhail Teplinsky, commander of an army, Gordeyev said.
