Ukraine Interior Forces unit dissolved as part of alleged deal with militia
DONETSK, Ukraine. June 28 (Interfax) - A Ukrainian Interior Forces unit has been disbanded with its soldiers going home as part of a deal between its command and the Donetsk militia, and the latter took hold of two armored personnel carriers the unit had been equipped with, one of the leaders of the "Donetsk People's Republic" said.
"An agreement was made with the command of Unit No. 3032 to let the [soldiers] go," Vladimir Makovich, acting chairman of the Supreme Council of the "Donetsk Peoples Republic" told Interfax.
"All the conscript soldiers were transferred to the reserve by order of the minister of defense of the Donetsk People's Republic, Igor Strelkov," Makovich said. The militia obtained two APCs, he said.
An Interfax correspondent reported that the soldiers were met by their families when leaving the unit's base, and before that the unit commander thanked the soldiers for their service.
