MIR 24, REN TV journalists come under fire attack in Donetsk

MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - Crews from the MIR 24 and REN TV television channels have come under fire in Donetsk.

"This morning several television crews, including journalists from the MIR 24 television channel, came under fire in Donetsk. Our correspondent Aleksandr Leonenko was working there at the time," MIR 24 said on its website.

"Having entered the city, we saw one supporter of the self-proclaimed republic literally flinging himself under our car and telling us to stop. A signal rocket flared up instantly, and our vehicle came under fire. We managed to run out and hide in a gutter nearby. Later we learnt that the crew of our colleagues came under fire as well," Leonenko said in the statement posted on MIR 24's website.

Besides, journalists from the REN TV channel, too, came under the attack which killed Channel One cameraman Anatoly Klyan.

Journalist Vitaly Khanin, who was beside Klyan when he was injured, said: "Next everyone fell on the floor and Tolya told me: I've been injured. Several times. Then I held him, not knowing what to do. I had no idea where it hit, he only said he could not breathe," Khanin said in a statement posted on Channel One's website.

It was reported earlier that Channel One cameraman Klyan was fatally injured in the stomach during a trip to one of military bases in Donetsk.
