Russian cameraman's death in Donetsk could be linked to his profession - Naryshkin
MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin has said the death of Channel One cameraman Anatoly Klyan sends an alarming signal to the global community, and urged the authorities in Kyiv to investigate the tragedy.
"We are deeply grieving the death of a Russian journalist, Channel One cameraman Anatoly Klyan. He was our colleague too, having accreditation with the State Duma," Naryshkin told journalists after a Duma Council meeting on Monday.
He called the journalist's death a big loss, noting with regret that it was not the first one. "This is also an alarming signal to the global community. There are valid reasons to believe that he was killed precisely because of what he did as a profession," the speaker said.
The authorities in Kyiv should "stop violence, honor the truce and investigate the death of our journalist," he said.
Klyan was killed in an attack in Donetsk on June 30. The tragedy took place outside a military base where his television crew was filming a report. Klyan was fatally injured in the abdomen. He was 68 years old.
