CIS defense ministers to consider long-term cooperation guidelines

ASTANA. June 30 (Interfax) - The Defense Ministers Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States "will discuss conceptual guidelines for the development of military cooperation between member states of the CIS for the period until 2020" at a planned meeting in Astana on July 4, the Kazakhstan Defense Ministry said on Monday.

The ministers will also give consideration to documents on the status of the engineering forces of CIS countries during humanitarian bomb disposal missions, on flight safety, on radiation control, on monitoring chemical and biological weapon stockpiles for potential environmental effects, on priority air defense armaments research, and on the joint use of spacecraft, the Kazakh ministry said in a statement.

The meeting agenda also includes aspects of military education and sports and proposals for better guarantees of social security and other rights for military personnel.
