Donetsk authorities say militia opened fire on local airport last night
KYIV. July 1 (Interfax) - A shootout erupted in the Kyivsky neighborhood of Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, at around 4:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday, according to a report posted on the website of Donetsk Mayor Oleksandr Lukyanchenko.
"People living on Kyivsky Avenue, the Hladkovka neighborhood and Shchors Street have said that supporters of the Donetsk People's Republic attempted to open fire on [Ukrainian army] airplanes with large-caliber weapons. Residents of the Kirovsky district have reported gunfire in the direction of the village of Maryinka," according to the mayor's website.
There have been no reports of casualties or injuries.
The city authorities also said that the city's utilities enterprises and public transport are functioning as usual despite the tense situation.
