Russian consumer watchdog says quality of Ukrainian imports going down

MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) - Russia's sanitary service has some new concerns about the quality of Ukrainian products imported to Russia, Anna Popova, the head of Russia's consumer protection watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, and the chief sanitary doctor, said.

"We have observed a downturn in the quality of a whole range of areas. We have observed an increase in negative finds in cheese, dairy products and canned vegetables," she told the press in Moscow Tuesday, in response to a question from Interfax.

Popova said the Russian sanitary service has some issues regarding Ukrainian foods "in some other areas," and added that "unfortunately, the number of these facts is only growing."

"All this information is being processed. We are withdrawing it [the products], prohibiting its sale and we are seeking administrative liability."

The Rospotrebnadzor website states that the Belgorod regional branch discovered Ukrainian dairy products that failed to comply with regulations: 4 types of cheese, 2 types of butter, 2 types of cheese products and condensed milk.

Problems with the safety of Ukrainian products were also identified in Rostov region.
