Russia's return to "winter" time will have supporters and opponents - Timakova

MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) - By passing the bill reverting to the "winter" time the State Duma has assumed responsibility for the decision that will no doubt have both supporters and opponents, Russian Prime Minister's Press Secretary Nataliya Timakova said.

"There is no doubt that the decision made by the State Duma today will have both supporters and opponents. Rural areas, for example, support the permanent summer time, while cities in (Russia's) European part, the winter one. At any rate, the responsibility for the decision will lie not only with the government but (Duma) deputies as well," Timakova told Interfax on Tuesday, commenting on the "winter" time bill passing two straight readings in the State Duma.

"Our country and the world have various approaches to the time standard, and various schemes were chosen at various historical periods," the prime minister's spokesperson said.

"None of the existing schemes is ideal, as proved by social polls," Timakova said.

Earlier on Tuesday the State Duma approved on second and third, final, reading the bill returning the "winter" time to Russia.

Under the bill, the clocks are due to be changed on October 26, 2014.
