Rogozin calls for refocusing Transdniestrian economy towards Russian market
MOSCOW. July 2 (Interfax) - Moscow and Tiraspol will refocus the Transdniestrian economy towards Russia against the backdrop of the Moldova-EU association agreement, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said.
"The bulk of commodities manufactured in Transdniestria were meant for EU countries until recently but now these commodities are practically being barred. And these are quality commodities," Rogozin told journalists after having met with Transdniestrian President Yevgeny Shevchuk.
For instance, Transdniestria makes clothes for the Austrian army, the deputy prime minister said. "Their products are highly competitive," he noted.
"It is our task to create conditions for refocusing Transdniestrian products towards markets of the Russian Federation amid the approaching or, to be more exact, ongoing blockade," Rogozin continued.
In turn, Shevchuk said the Moldova-EU association agreement had already created problems. "We are witnessing a trend of further exacerbation. Conditions are being created to set additional duties on trade with the European Union. In fact, our economy is working with the blocked transport and the blocked banking system. This reduces our capacities," the president said.
Shevchuk and the Transdniestrian delegation members signed an interdepartmental agreement and memoranda with Russian ministries on Wednesday. The memoranda were signed by the ministries of economic development, industry and trade and agriculture.
