Suspected gang member Matusov extradited from Thailand, brought to Moscow - Prosecutor General's Office
MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax) - Gang member Alexander Matusov, who is accused of several murders committed in 1990s, has been brought to Moscow from Thailand, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office representative told Interfax on Thursday.
"Matusov has been brought to the capital and given to the law enforcement authorities," the representative said.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, deported Igor Voskresensky wanted by Chelyabinsk police for embezzlement and misappropriation and Mikhail Yefimov accused of fraud by Tver law enforcement authorities arrived on the same flight from Thailand.
Matusov is accused of the attempted murder of two people, committed by an organized group while endangering many lives and the murder of two people committed by a group, the Prosecutor General's Office press office said.
The criminal case regarding Matusov is probed by the Russian Investigative Committee main investigative department.
According to the information of investigators, in November 1996 Matusov and other gang members made an attempt on the lives of several people in the Gorodishche cafe in the Sverdlovskoye village in the Moscow region's Shchyolkovsky district.
In August 2010 Matusov was placed on the international wanted list.
On June 25 the Russian Investigative Committee said Matusov was detained in Thailand. Earlier court sentences saw eight gang members, including its leader sentenced to six to 21 years in maximum security prisons, while former Russian Federation Council member Igor Izmestyev was sentenced to life imprisonment.
One more person accused of the crimes in absentia - Oleg Rogatin - is still on the international wanted list.
