Shell explodes near boarding school in east Ukraine - Russian ombudsman's office
MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - At least one person was injured as a shell exploded near a boarding school in Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine, the office of the Russian commissioner for children's rights said on Friday.
"One more instance of shelling of children's institutions in southeastern Ukraine has been recorded in Kramatorsk. A shell fell and exploded outside School No. 3 for children from problem families, which is on Voznesensky Street. Windows were smashed in the building, and at least one person was injured," the office said in a statement without mentioning the date of the incident.
The statement said none of the children had been hurt as all of them had been evacuated from the building on May 25.
Earlier, the Russian commissioner for children's rights, Pavel Astakhov, said a mortar bomb had hit an orphanage in Slovyansk on Tuesday, destroying the roof and damaging walls. "There are bricks, broken glass, pieces of furniture and children's toys on the floor in the rooms," Astakhov said.
None of the children was inside during the incident but the personnel had to hide in the basement, he said.
On Wednesday morning, a shell hit an empty school building in Luhansk but no one was hurt, Astakhov said.
