Poroshenko orders help for residents of Slovyansk, other towns in east Ukraine
KYIV. July 6 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has announced to have issued necessary orders regarding the humanitarian aid for the needy in Slovyansk and other towns.
"In particular, airplanes and motorcades carrying food are heading to Slovyansk. Bread, water, sugar, canned meats should be delivered to the city as early as today. Besides, I have ordered work to begin to repair power and water supplies to ensure normal life in the city," Poroshenko said in his Saturday address to the Ukrainian people.
Pensions, student scholarships and other government payouts should be delivered to Slovyansk and other towns immediately, he said. "Start rebuilding infrastructure. Clean up the schools. On September 1 children must go to renovated classrooms," the president said.
He reaffirmed the state's commitment to help rebuild houses.
It emerged earlier on Saturday that militias from the self-proclaimed Donetsk republic had left Slovyansk; later there were reports about their departure from Kramatorsk.
