Puchkov: Over 16,000 men safeguarding Russian Arctic in emergency situations
VYTEGRA (Vologda region). July 7 (Interfax) - A force safeguarding the Russian Arctic in emergency situations and providing safe living of the local population consists of more than 16,000 men and will continue to grow, Russian Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Puchkov said.
"As of now, the force safeguarding the Arctic zone consists of more than 16,000 men, including forces of the federal executive authorities, the executive authorities of Russian constituent territories and municipalities. The force numbers continue to grow," Puchkov said on Saturday in the Vologda region where the Vytegra Arctic rescue training and research center was launched.
In the words of Puchkov, the Emergency Situations Ministry is actively developing the control system to ensure the security of the civilian population in the Arctic zone. The ministry intends to open ten Arctic rescue centers, he said.
