Eight Ukrainian border guards injured in overnight mortar fire

KYIV. July 8 (Interfax) - The Dolzhansky and Dyakovo border checkpoints in the Luhansk region and another two positions of tactical groups of Ukrainian law enforcers came under mortar fire overnight, Ukrainian State Border Service press service head Oleh Slobodian said.

Eight border guards sustained injuries in the four gunfire incidents, he said.

Russia said earlier there was intensive gunfire on the Ukrainian territory in the area of the Dolzhansky checkpoint and in the direct proximity to the Novoshakhtinsk customs post of the Rostov customs service on Tuesday dawn.

Novoshakhtinsk customs officers were evacuated at 5:30 a.m. Moscow time to a safe distance outside of their post and returned to the work places at 7 a.m., the press service of the Southern Customs Department told Interfax.
