Duma Deputy Seleznyov denies his son's arrest in U.S. on hacking charges

MOSCOW. July 8 (Interfax) - State Duma Deputy Valery Seleznyov of the Russian Liberal Democratic Party said his son Roman could not have been arrested in the United States, thus having denied relevant mass media reports.

"I know absolutely accurately that my son could not have been detained in the U.S. because he has not been there," Seleznyov told Interfax on Tuesday.

According to mass media reports, Roman Seleznyov, accused of illegal operations with credit cards of U.S. consumers, is a well-known hacker, who has been arrested in the U.S. Meanwhile, Deputy Seleznyov said he son Roman is not a programmer but a humanitarian and he could not be engaged in such fraud.

A foreign agency, which reported the arrest of Roman Seleznyov, cites anonymous sources, and this does not add creditability to the information, the deputy said.

At the same time, Deputy Seleznyov told Interfax he was not aware where exactly his son was - "he is on vacation somewhere abroad but definitely not in the U.S."

When asked about contacts, for instance telephone conversation, with Roman, the deputy said: "No, unfortunately, I can not reach [him]."

The name of Seleznyov's son became well known in 2011, when Roman, while in Morocco, was injured in a cafe bombing in Marrakesh - he had head and arm injury. The terrorist attack claimed 16 lives and injured 23 people. Roman Seleznyov has had surgery in Moscow and back then his state was stable but serious.
