Iran not planning to interfere in Iraq's affairs but backs its anti-terrorism combat - diplomat

MOSCOW. July 8 (Interfax) - Tehran is not going to interfere in Iraq's internal affairs because of the group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant's (ISIL) activities in this country, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei said.

"Our policy is such that we don't interfere in Iraq's affairs," Sanaei said in an interview with the Russian news TV channel Rossiya-24.

All countries should provide moral and material support to the Iraqi government in combating terrorism, he said.

"We should consolidate all our efforts in combating terrorism," Sanaei said.

It was reported earlier that the ISIL, which had fought in Syria until recently, started an offensive on Iraq's northern and western regions in June 2014.

ISIL militants have managed to seize several Iraqi cities and some areas bordering Syria and Jordan.
