Ukrainian speaker expects court to put end to Communist ideology

KYIV. July 9 (Interfax) - Ukrainian parliamentary Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov expects a court to grant the Justice Ministry's motion on banning the Ukrainian Communist Party's activities.

"There should be no political forces in a new Ukraine that hate their people, support invaders and work for their country's destruction," the Verkhovna Rada press service quoted Turchynov as commenting on the motion on banning the Communist Party that the Justice Ministry has forwarded to the Kyiv District Administrative Court.

Turchynov thanked the Justice Ministry for following an instruction he had issued following commemorative events in Bykivnya, Kyiv, on preparing a suit on banning the Communist Party based on evidence collected by the Security Service and the Prosecutor General's Office concerning Communists' alleged collaboration with members of illegal armed units and other unconstitutional activities.

"I hope the court will make a just decision and will put an end to such a dangerous remnant of totalitarianism in Ukraine as a communist party and communist ideology," Turchynov said.
