Lawyers of Makhachkala ex-mayor Amirov to appeal against verdict
ROSTOV-ON-DON. July 9 (Interfax) - The head of the defense team for Makhachkala's former mayor Said Amirov, has said the verdict issued by the North Caucasus District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don against his clients was illegal.
"The impression is that instead of a verdict we heard a brief indictment. We sat for three months, and for three months they were questioning the trial participants, some of whom told about the physical pressure and torture some witnesses were subjected to. A huge number of people were questioned, and both Amirov and Dzhaparov have a real, irrefutable alibi. I consider the verdict illegal," Vladimir Postanyuk told reporters on Wednesday.
The lawyer said he could not understand why Amirov's nephew Yusup Dzhaparov got a prison term. "He himself explained that his only guilt was being Amirov's nephew, although Dzhaparov himself is very proud of it," Postanyuk said.
The chief defense lawyer said that the verdict in the case against Amirov and Dzhaparov will be appealed by his team with every court.
