Intl donors to meet in autumn to discuss help to Ukraine - president's office
KYIV. July 9 (Interfax) - Foreign and international leaders are due to come together this autumn for a conference of donors for Ukraine, the Ukrainian president's office said on Wednesday.
An agreement was reached at a meeting in Brussels on Tuesday to set up a committee to organize the forum, the office said in a statement.
Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Groisman headed the Ukrainian delegation to the meeting, which brought together senior representatives of the European Commission, European Union countries, the United States, Canada, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Council of Europe, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Monetary Fund, and the European Investment Bank.
"A high-level coordination meeting of donors on prospects for assistance to Ukraine was held with support from the European Commission in Brussels on July 8. The participants expressed support for the initiatives of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko concerning the effective implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, the modernization of the country, the implementation of infrastructural and social projects in the Donets Basin, and improving the control of the eastern border of Ukraine," the statement from president's office said.
Poroshenko's deputy chief of staff Valery Chaly "said that meeting participants advocated not only more extensive international financial support for Ukraine but also the coordination of the efforts of Ukraine and its partners for supporting the peace plan of President Petro Poroshenko, among other things for restoring and further developing the infrastructure and carrying out social projects in the Donets Basin," the office said.
