Russia could ban Moldovan fruit and vegetables
MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) may ban the delivery of fruit, vegetables and other quarantined products from Moldova ahead of its mass import season.
Violations of Russian phytosanitary requirements are behind this ban. In particular, on July 9, Eastern pea moths were found in a consignment of Moldovan apricots.
"Rosselkhoznadzor told Moldova's National Agency for Food Safety that in the case of new detections of quarantined items in regulated products that are imported to Russian territory, then temporary restrictions could be considered," the statement said.
According to the watchdog, in 2013, Eastern pea moths were found 15 times in imports of apples and plums from Moldova.
Rosselkhoznadzor director Sergei Dankvert told Interfax earlier that the ban could affect Moldovan meat products, especially pork products, due to violations of Russian veterinary and sanitary requirements.
