Putin: Russia, Argentina have similar or identical approaches to key issues in global politics
MOSCOW. July 11 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to discuss Russia-Argentina relations, global affairs and promising bilateral projects with Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
"Our approaches to the key issues in global politics are either similar or identical. We share the belief that there is a need to create a new and more equitable polycentric world order based on international law with the central and coordinating role of the UN," Putin said in an interview with Prensa Latina and a Russian news agency shortly before his Latin American tour.
He cited as a good example of bilateral cooperation a Joint Statement on Not Being the First to Place Arms in Outer Space the Russian Federation and the Argentine Republic signed in May 2014.
"Argentina is one of Russia's key strategic partners in Latin America, the UN and the G20," Putin underscored.
He said the negotiations would "pay particular attention to enhancing technology and investment cooperation, particularly in such areas as energy, peaceful nuclear energy and mechanical engineering."
"We also see good prospects for further collaboration in the Antarctic. I plan to discuss all these issues during the talks with President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner," the Russian president stressed.
Putin is about to start a weeklong Latin American tour. Cuba is the first leg of his voyage. He will visit Havana on Friday and pay an official visit to Argentina on July 12 and an official visit to Brazil on July 13-16.
