Rostov region attack inquiry will involve satellite data - investigators

MOSCOW. July 14 (Interfax) - The Russian Investigative Committee (RIC) is going to request satellite data to establish which Ukrainian army unit was in the launch location of the shells which fell in Russia's Rostov region on July 13.

"Satellite data will be requested to help establish exactly which unit of the Ukrainian army, or the Right Sector, or the National Guard was in the launch zone of these shells," RIC spokesman Vladimir Markin told Interfax on Monday.

"Despite having no doubt about the instance of shooting coming from Ukrainian territory, all this data will be passed on to ballistic and bomb disposal experts so as to answer the investigators' questions about the type of shells, their flight trajectory, launch site and method," Markin said.

"All this, in turn, will also help establish the names of the specific commanders who ordered the attack on Russian territory, which killed a Russian citizen. These commanders should have no doubt that sooner or later they will answer for this crime," Markin said.

On July 13 the Ukrainian army fired explosive shells into the city of Donetsk in Russia's Rostov region. The shell hit a residential building, killing one Russian and leaving two with serious injuries.

On the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian charge d'affaires and expressed him a resolute protest.

According to RIC, the shell which hit the house in the Russian city of Donetsk was launched by the Ukrainian army.
